1. From April 19 to April 23, Starbucks is selling a ridiculously colorful new Frappuccino.
2. It’s been dubbed the “Unicorn frapp” and is basically a sweet cream base + mango syrup + pink powder + ANOTHER sour blue syrup!
“Unicorn-themed food and drinks have been trending on social media and we were inspired by the trend. The Unicorn Frappuccino Crème blended beverage is only available for limited time at participating Starbucks stores in the U.S. from April 19 – 23 while supplies last,” a Starbucks spokesperson told BuzzFeed Food.
3. It’s supposed to change flavors as you drink it, going from sweet to sour, and back again. It sounded intense, but we figured we’d give it a try.
4. On the morning of its release, the cashier at Starbucks said that only about three people had ordered it so far — and she was pretty excited to make it for us.
For two grande Unicorn Frappuccinos, the total came out to $ 11.43 ($ 5.25 each), which is more than, say, two grande vanilla creme Frappuccinos that would cost $ 3.95 each.

6. Pretty cool! But nothing too extravagant. This def would need some heavy filtering before hitting the Insta.
7. The moment of truth: the first taste was like a vanilla milkshake that you didn’t finish and put in the fridge — then took it out again later to drink.
Kevin’s review: I was expecting the unicorn frapp to be super sweet and it was — but not any sweeter than a normal vanilla frapp. When I first tasted it, I was pleasantly surprised. Don’t get me wrong, this wouldn’t be my go to Starbucks drink of choice, but it wasn’t nearly as awful as I was expecting. The sour was hard to taste so I pushed my straw against the side of the cup and it was like liquid candy. I was impressed that Starbucks was able to get the flavors to complement each other despite the outrageous color. The whipped cream had a ton of sour sugar on top and the taste of the sour candy sugar with sweet whipped cream was a bit overpowering. Overall, I thought the unicorn frapp was decent, but I don’t know if I would order it again.
8. To Michelle, it tasted JUST like a Starbucks Vanilla Bean Frappuccino.
Michelle’s review: I wanted to taste the mango flavor so badly, but I’d be straight up lying if I said this drink had any hint of fruit flavor. The drink tasted and had the texture of a vanilla bean Frappuccino — which costs way less. I also tried the pink-dusted whipped cream, which tasted sour and gave the mild vanilla flavor a bit of an edge. The whole drink itself was pretty underwhelming, so the sour whipped cream was really like a consolation prize.
I feel like I didn’t really get what I came for (but it still tasted pretty good, as most Frappuccinos do!), so I’d give this a 2.5/5.
9. Starbucks said that if you swirled the drink, the sour blue powder would make the Frappuccino turn “tangy and tart.” So we swirled.
Seriously, we swear we weren’t just trying to jiggle the whipped cream around here.
10. The drink was pretty swirl-resistant, especially those sour blue streaks that are supposed to change the flavor, so we swirled some more — like pretty aggressively.
11. Even after much swirling, the drink was mostly pink and primarily tasted of sweet vanilla.
Though if you pressed your straw toward the milky region where the blue sour streaks were, you could get a hint of the invigorating, sour goodness.
12. TL;DR: Get the Unicorn Frappuccino for its beautiful pink color but don’t expect a rainbow candy-in-a-drink experience.
